Laptop Computer Need either a PC or a Mac that can run the program "QGIS".
Day-Pack. Field vest (recommended) or a small pack for lunches/snacks, camera, rain gear, etc., while in the field.
Utility Belt. Leather, army surplus, etc., for carrying hammer, compass and other stuff.
Geologic Hammer. The "hard rock" type with one pointed and one blunt end is the most useful. May be confiscated at airport though. Do not try to carry on plane.
Hand Lens. 10X magnification.
Field Notebook. "Rite in-rain (c) is best but other types will do. Notebook should be small (to fit in pocket or day pack) and should have a stiff cover to provide a rigid writing surface. Some have alternate grid and lined page patterns to facilitate both sketching and note-taking. A typical handy size is about 7-1/2" by 4-3/4".
Wrist or Pocket Watch.
Safety Glasses. You should never hammer on a rock without eye protection. Prescription glasses (if normally worn) or sun glasses afford some protection but can be damaged.
Sun Block (Sun Screen). Something around SPF 15 or higher is usually recommended. Can be purchased on location.
First Aid Kit Band-Aids, “Tuff-skin” or equivalent. Also, aspirin, cold tablets, allergy medicine and whatever medications you need. First-aid kits can be purchasedon location.
Flashlight A small flashlight handy (indispensable?) for intermittent power failures, walking places at night. Can be purchased on location.

Tent, Hydration Pac, Sleeping bag
Field Boots. Boots should be durable and comfortable (and broken-in).
Hat. Very important. This is primarily for protection from the sun (and/or rain). Bring a hat with a wide brim to cover your forehead and nose.
2-3 pairs field pants (long leg)
1-2pairs field shorts
3-4 field shirts - short & long sleeve
5-6 pair field socks
1 light-weight jacket - water repellent
Sweat shirt with hood (hoodie)
Laundry can be sent out daily while in camp (not travelling).
cosmetics, including shampoos, conditioners, etc. can be purchased on location.
Adapters (for computers, etc.) are best purchaed on locatation.
You must pack in duffle bags, one __x__ sq. inches, a second __x sq. in. as ROOM IN THE VEHICLES IS LIMITED. If you can't pack in 2 duffle bags you have too much stuff. No hard-sided suitcases. A duffel bag (without wheels), is highly recommended. DO NOT bring a pack with a frame.
